The photo on the right was taken from the pool deck on the 18th floor of our hotel about three weeks ago on a relatively clear day for this time of year. This is looking toward Dubai International Airport, from which on most days I can watch through my living room window the planes taking off.
Today we woke up today to gray-brown skies. Yahoo! weather has today's forecast as 99°F and "widespread dust." There's a news flash. When we came out of church around noon, I could taste the dust in the air. I wouldn't call this a sandstorm because the substance is too fine. It is truly talcum-like dust, judging from the layer deposited on my car today.
This picture was taken out our kitchen window on the 9th floor, looking in the same general direction as in the first, just a little more to the right. The Clock Tower Roundabout and fountain is no more than 1/3 mile from our window. It's not that windy here, but it sure must be blowing like the dickens somewhere.
